We would like to introduce to you an article about the difference between Chemical peel and Microdermabrasion.
Both treatments are considered to be a form of exfoliation. Exfoliation is the act of removing dead skin cells from the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin.

Microdermabrasion is a deep, medical-grade physical exfoliation that vacuums away dead skin cells from the epidermis, which then helps promote the growth of new and healthy skin cells.

Chemical Peels, like microdermabrasion, are used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, discoloration caused by sun damage, reduce the appearance of superficial scars, clear up breakouts and improve the overall look and feel of the skin. The biggest difference between the two treatments is how the dead skin cells are removed from the skin.

Beautify Your Back: 3 Tips for Flawless Skin

The summer is coming (finally) and it is the best time to show off more skin, and we are talking about those flawless open-back tops and dresses that expose your shoulders and back. Before you put them on, make sure that your skin is at it's best condition with these three easy steps :

1.) Get rid of Rough Patches
Exfoliate twice a week in the shower using a long-handle loofah brush.

2.) Dryness
Since they cover a large surface area, foam mitts made for self-tanners are also great for applying lotion where hands alone can't reach.

3.) Pastiness
The easiest way to add some color to your own back is with a mist-on tanner. Bend over slightly, then swing your arm over your shoulder and spritz. The color will fall evenly onto your back.

>>>Note, if your skin looks like it needs a bit more work than just rubbing it with a brush, come on in to our center and we will give you a full back microdermabrasion

Beauty Tips Of The Day From Blue in Green Center :
How to Get soft hands this winter with coconut oil and honey
With the cold weather seeping in, it’s time to update your skincare and beauty regime. You would notice your hands go unnecessarily dry and flaky; almost looking lifeless; honey and coconut oil would serve well to get rid of this dryness. Know how to get rid of itchy skin with these natural remedies.
Honey acts a ‘moisture-trapper’ for the skin and keeps it well intact to ensure the needed skin hydration. It is also often used to exfoliate the skin as it deep-cleanses and nourishes. Similarly, coconut oil is a great moisturising agent and is used as a base in moisturising lotions and home-made scrubs. It’s a soothing way to soften skin and cuticles, serving as beneficial massage oil. Sugar too contributes in moisturizing and controls skin damage.
Here is how you could use these ingredients to soften dry and flaky hands
1.) Take some honey, coconut oil and sugar according to the area of application.
2.) Mix these ingredients into a fine paste and massage thoroughly.
3.) Leave this paste on for 2 minutes and wash with lukewarm water.
4.) Do this at least twice a week for desired results.
Keep you hands warm this Holiday Season smile emoticon
Sincerely Yours,

Weight Loss Tips Of The Day From Blue In Green Center :

9 Superfoods for Spring

There's a food movement afoot: Eating well to look, feel, and perform our very best is hot. And as Jamie Oliver and Michelle Obama alike are showing us, this isn't a matter of choking down foods because they're good for you. It's about filling your plate with delicious fare.

1. Walnuts
Good for: Mood

Walnuts are packed with tryptophan, an amino acid your body needs to create the feel-great chemical serotonin. (In fact, Spanish researchers found that walnut eaters have higher levels of this natural mood-regulator.) Another perk: They're digested slowly. This contributes to mood stability and can help you tolerate stress.

2. Asparagus
Good for: Mood

These spears are one of the best veggie sources of folate, a B vitamin that could help keep you out of a slump. Folate is important for the synthesis of the neurotransmitters dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine,. All of these are crucial for mood.

A cup of cooked asparagus has 268 micrograms (mcg)—two-thirds of the 400 mcg RDA for women. Add a cup of enriched pasta—which is fortified with folic acid, the synthetic form of folate—and you'll have a feel-good meal indeed.

3. Spring garlic
Good for: Weight Loss

The slim-you benefit of this seasonal treat lies in a compound called allicin, which gives garlic its pungent smell. Allicin may keep you from overeating by stimulating satiety in the brain.

Spring garlic has a milder, sweeter taste than the dried white bulbs you buy later in the season. Enjoy it diced on salad for a fat-fighting side or lunch.

4. Spinach
Good for: Energy

These tasty leaves are a great source of iron (especially if you don't eat meat), which is a key component in red blood cells that fuel our muscles with oxygen for energy.

Researchers in Sweden recently identified another way in which these greens might keep you charged: Compounds found in spinach actually increase the efficiency of our mitochondria, the energy-producing factories inside our cells. That means eating a cup of cooked spinach a day may give you more lasting power on the elliptical machine (or in your daily sprint to catch the bus)

5. Artichokes
Good for: Energy

If you've been huffing and puffing up the stairs, try these spiky-leafed vegetables. They're loaded with magnesium, a mineral vital for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body—including generating energy. If you're not getting enough magnesium, your muscles have to work harder to react and you tire more quickly.

About 68% of us aren't getting enough of this mineral. For women, the goal is 320 milligrams (mg) per day. One medium artichoke provides 77 mg of magnesium (and just 60 calories!). Other top sources include nuts, legumes, and whole grains.

6. Salmon
Good for: Skin

There's wrinkle prevention on your plate: "Salmon is rich in a fatty acid called eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), a type of omega-3 that naturally helps block the release of UV-induced enzymes that diminish collagen, causing lines and sagging skin.

Bonus: Omega-3s also regulate oil production in the skin and boost hydration, which helps keep your complexion dewy and acne-free.

7. Strawberries
Good for: Skin

They may not have the smoothest complexion themselves, but strawberries can get you one. They're loaded with antioxidants that help your skin repair damage caused by environmental factors like pollution and UV rays. Plus, they're packed with vitamin C (less than a cup gets you your entire 75 mg RDA)—the vitamin associated with fewer wrinkles and less dryness

8. Eggs
Good for: Memory

Have your over-easies before you hit the Easter egg hunt. The yolks are chock-full of choline, a key nutrient for recall. Your body needs choline to make a brain chemical called acetylcholine, crucial for storing memories.

The recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for choline is 425 mg. There are 147 mg in a large egg; other good options are nuts and red meat.

9. Blueberries
Good for: Memory

Eat them regularly and you may reap big brain benefits. In a recent study, people with age-related memory decline who drank roughly two and a half cups of blueberry juice per day for 12 weeks (the equivalent of eating a cup of blueberries) made significant improvements on memory and learning tests compared with those who drank a placebo juice.

Stay healthy, eat healthy :)

Beauty Tips Of The Day From Blue In Green Center :

7 Sensational Tips for Spring Vacation Skin Care Routine

Achieving and maintaining healthy skin while you’re on vacation is totally possible! Follow these few easy skin care tips and you can enjoy clear, glowing skin while you’re out and about.

One of the most important tips we can give you in terms of spring break skin care is to get a quality, full-spectrum #sunblock. Sunblock is a physical blocker while sunscreen uses chemicals that allow the #skin to absorb the sun’s rays without burning. The chemicals in sunscreen are basically free radicals that can cause skin to lose its suppleness over #time.

If it’s been awhile since you last purchased moisturizer, it might be #time to invest in a lighter #formula. Thick creams were appropriate for the winter but they can be a little much in the warmer months. Look for a lightweight #moisturizer for your #face and body that won’t leave you feeling greasy but still provides sufficient #hydration.

Sloughing off dead skin cells is a must in any #skin care routine regardless of the season. #Exfoliation helps you get a closer shave, helps self-tanners go on more even and they’ll leave your #face and body feeling soft and smooth

There’s nothing wrong with trying to use some new products, that but if you’re getting close to your vacation or a special event, you could end up with a bad #reaction. Use products your skin is used to and don’t use new products too aggressively to avoid irritating #skin.

The next skin care tip is to schedule any skin care treatments like facials, waxes and #tanning a few days before your embark upon your trip. You want to make sure your tan develops properly and ensure that you’re not faced with donning a swimsuit with irritated #skin from waxing or #shaving. Same thing goes with facials; your #face might be red or irritated right after the #treatment, so give it time to heal.

Going easy on #skin care products and makeup is a good idea while you’re on vacation. You want to have your skin care and #beauty essentials, but toting around a million lotions and potions or going to the beach with heavy makeup can #look and feel awkward. Keep skin care and #makeup light so you can focus on having fun!

he last skin care tip for spring break is to stay on regimen. It takes #time and effort to achieve beautiful, healthy skin, so don’t undo all your hard work while you’re away. Take the time to remove all of the dirt, #sweat and makeup off of your #face and follow up with moisturizer. You don’t have to go all out, but it’s important to not let your skin care regimen fall by the wayside

Stay Healthy and Beautiful :)

Chili peppers have plenty of health benefits

Chili pepper contains an impressive list of plant derived chemical compounds that are known to have disease preventing and health promoting properties.

>>>Chilies contain health benefiting an alkaloid compound in them, capsaicin, which gives them strong spicy pungent character. Early laboratory studies on experimental mammals suggest that capsaicin has anti-bacterial, anti-carcinogenic, analgesic and anti-diabetic properties.

>>>> It also found to reduce LDL cholesterol levels in obese individuals.

>>>>Fresh chili peppers, red and green, are rich source of vitamin-C. 100 g fresh chilies provide about 143.7 µg or about 240% of RDA. Vitamin C is a potent water-soluble antioxidant. It is required for the collagen synthesis inside the human body. Collagen is one of the main structural protein required for maintaining the integrity of blood vessels, skin, organs, and bones. Regular consumption of foods rich in vitamin C helps protect from scurvy, develop resistance against infectious agents (boosts immunity), and scavenge harmful, pro-inflammatory free radicals from the body.

>>>>They are also good in other antioxidants such as vitamin-A, and flavonoids like ß-carotene, α-carotene, lutein, zea-xanthin, and cryptoxanthin. These antioxidant substances in capsicum help protect the body from injurious effects of free radicals generated during stress, diseases conditions.

>>>>Chilies contain a good amount of minerals like potassium, manganese, iron, and magnesium. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids that helps controlling heart rate and blood pressure. Manganese is used by the body as a co-factor for the antioxidant enzyme, superoxide dismutase.

>>>>Chili peppers have amazingly high levels of vitamins and minerals. Just 100 g provides (in % of recommended daily allowance):

240% of vitamin-C (Ascorbic acid),
39% of vitamin B-6 (Pyridoxine),
32% of vitamin A,
13% of iron,
14% of copper,
7% of potassium,
 but no cholesterol

Did you know?

Eating Whole Mint Leaves can be very beneficial for your health?

With its distinctively spicy taste and invigorating scent, mint is often an ingredient in gum, candy or tea, but people also eat it fresh. Fresh mint leaves add flavor and nutrition to many different recipes, and chewing on whole leaves may have certain health benefits and ward off some medical conditions.

Vitamins and Minerals

Fresh mint, including spearmint and peppermint, contains several key vitamins and minerals you need for good health, though they're not present in huge amounts. For example, fresh mint contains trace amounts of iron, a mineral you need to make red blood cells. Mint also has small amounts of fiber, vitamin A and potassium.

Antioxidant Power

One of the primary benefits of fresh mint is that it contains potent antioxidants. Peppermint, for example, has perillyl alcohol, which might stop the formation or spread of cancer, according to Michael T. Murray and Joseph E. Pizzorno, authors of "The Encyclopedia of Healing Foods." Peppermint also contains another antioxidant called rosmarinic acid, which can help prevent and treat certain allergies.

Digestive Benefits
Eating fresh mint leaves might help promote digestion, according to Murray and Pizzorno. Mint, most notably peppermint, also acts as a carminative, which means it can help ease gas and its associated symptoms. Peppermint makes the flow of bile more efficient, which means that you digest your food more quickly, and it also helps relax the muscles in your digestive tract, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Fresh Mint In Your Diet
Chop fresh mint leaves and scatter them over a tossed green or grilled chicken salad. The leaves will add trace amounts of nutrients as well as a bold flavor. Stir chopped mint into meatballs and serve the cooked meat on leafy greens with a drizzle of sesame or olive oil. Add chopped mint leaves to brewed iced tea or lemonade or stir them into fruit salad. If you want to use mint for nausea, talk to your doctor first, especially if you have gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, cautions the University of Maryland Medical Center. Peppermint can exacerbate symptoms of GERD, because it can cause stomach acids to come back up the esophagus.

Stay healthy, eat healthy.

Healthy Tips of The Day From Blue In Green Center :

6 ways to soothe the sore throat

The Spring has finally came to DMV, however as odd as it is, due to the weather's tricky behavior a lot of us have been getting sick.

Today we are going to give you some tips on how to soothe the sore throat.

A sore throat can be the first sign of a cold, a side effect of strained vocal cords, or an indication of something more serious (like strep throat).

Regardless of the cause, your immediate concern when soreness strikes is how to get relief, fast. You may be tempted to run to your doctor, but some of the best treatments are home remedies and over-the-counter meds, says Jeffrey Linder, M.D., an internist at Brigham and Women's Hospital, in Boston.

1. Anti-inflammatories

One of the most effective treatments for sore throat is probably already in your medicine cabinet: an over-the-counter, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) such as Advil or Aleve.

"These medicines are combination pain relievers and anti-inflammatories, so they'll make you feel better and they'll also reduce some of the swelling associated with a sore throat," Dr. Linder says. "If you have a fever that's also contributing to your symptoms, they can help reduce that as well."

2. Saltwater gargle

Several studies have found that gargling several times a day with warm salt water can reduce swelling in the throat and loosen mucus, helping to flush out irritants or bacteria.

Doctors generally recommend dissolving half a teaspoon of salt in one cup of water. If the salty taste is too unpleasant for you, try adding a small amount of honey to sweeten the mixture slightly. (Just remember to spit the water out after gargling, rather than swallowing!)

3. Lozenges and sprays

Sucking on cough drops stimulates saliva production, which can help keep your throat moist. But many varieties are no more effective than hard candies, Dr. Linder says. For an added benefit, choose brands with a cooling or numbing ingredient, like menthol or eucalyptus.

Over-the-counter sprays like Chloraseptic produce an effect similar to cooling lozenges. They won't cure your sore throat or help you fight off the underlying cold, but they may help dull the pain temporarily. Chloraseptic's active ingredient, phenol, is a local antiseptic that also has antibacterial properties, Dr. Linder says.

"Staying hydrated is very important, especially when you're sick and your throat is irritated or inflamed," Dr. Linder says. "You should be drinking enough fluid so that your urine is light yellow or clear. This keeps your mucous membranes moist and better able to combat bacteria and irritants like allergens, and makes your body better able to fight back against other cold symptoms."

What you drink is up to you, Linder adds. Water always works (ice cubes, too!), but you can also change it up with something slightly sugary, like a watered-down fruit juice, or something salty, like chicken broth

5. Now here is the surprising one- Marshmallows (Yay!) :

Although there's no hard evidence that it works, sap from the marshmallow plant has been used for hundreds of years—usually in tea form—to treat coughs, colds, and sore throats. And while real marshmallow bears little relation to the puffy campfire treats that took its name, both may have sore throat-fighting properties.

According to anecdotal reports, modern-day marshmallows can help ease sore throat pain, possibly because the gelatin coats and soothes. "It's not the wackiest thing in the world," Dr. Linder says. "If your throat is really swollen and it really hurts to swallow anything, I can see how something slippery and sweet like marshmallows might provide some relief.

6. Rest
It may not be the quickest solution, but getting some rest is probably the best thing you can do to battle the infection that caused your sore throat in the first place, Dr. Linder says.

"The vast majority of sore throats are caused by cold viruses, and we know that there's very little we can do to cure a cold once we've got it," he says. "Making sure your body is well rested will at least help it fight off the virus so you can get better sooner."

Please take care and try not to get sick -it is way too nice outside to be sick at home :)

Sincerely yours,

Beauty Tips Of The Day From Blue In Green Center :

6 Easy tips to prepare your skin for Spring

As winter winds down (well, not so much in DMV area, but there's a hope that the Spring will come eventually ), it’s easy to feel discouraged about the way you look. After all, we've been living through months of constant indoor heat on top of bitter cold weather leaving our skin flaky, dry and looking aged.

With spring come’s sunshine, humidity, and time spent outdoors. And since spring is a time of rejuvenation and growth, it’s the perfect occasion to pamper your skin. And if you’re on a tight budget, you’re in luck. There are a number of ways to improve your skin health without expensive facial scrubs, moisturizers, or wrinkle serums.

1.) Exfoliate: If you haven’t scrubbed those dead skin cells off your face all winter, it’s definitely time to start. You should be exfoliating two to three times per week.

You can exfoliate by using a washcloth or loofah, either of which can be purchased at any drugstore for a few dollars. If you want an easy DIY scrub recipe, mix up an easy concoction of sugar, salt, or oatmeal together with your face and body wash. If you have dry skin, add honey, olive oil or milk to your mix for a dose of lasting hydration.

2.) Drink Water: Despite years of thinking otherwise, we now know that drinking lots of water each day does not have an effect on your skin. But that doesn’t mean that drinking water isn’t good for your body. Drinking water can even aid in a reduction of the winter comfort food pounds that snuck up on you.

Aim for eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day. An easy way to break it down is to drink an 8 ounce glass first thing in the morning, mid-morning, late afternoon, and before bed. Then, have a glass of water before each meal or snack. This will not only get you to your 8 glasses, it will help fill you up, causing you to eat less and potentially lose weight. You’ll also likely see an increase in your energy levels and an improved mood, so get drinking.

3.) Pay Attention to Your Feet: We’re guessing you have seriously neglected your feet over the winter. With feet bundled up constantly in thick socks and boots, who can blame you? With flip-flop season right around the corner though, it’s time to give your feet some attention.

Fill a foot basin or other container with six cups of warm or hot water and two cups of milk. The milk is a mild exfoliator and will also soothe your skin. Sit back, relax and soak for 5 to 10 minutes. This step will soften your skin, getting them ready for exfoliating.

After soaking, use a pumice stone to remove dry, calloused skin from your feet. Focus especially on your heels, which often build up the thickest skin. Scrub gently with the stone for several minutes. Last, apply a thick moisturizer to your feet.

4.) Shave Smart: Along with not paying enough attention to your feet, we’d guess you didn't shave as often in the winter as you do in the summer. After all, if you’re all covered up anyway, why bother? But with spring and summer comes bare skin so it’s time to get to work.

Before you grab the razor, exfoliate your entire body to remove dead skin cells. You can easily make a body scrub at home by simply mixing two cups of coffee grounds (used), a half-cup of sugar, and a half-cup (or less) of olive oil. Using your hands, scrub from your neck down to your toes.

After you've finished shaving, apply moisturizer before you leave the humid bathroom. This will help seal the moisture into your skin and reduce the chance that you develop razor rash or shave bumps.

5.) Protect Your Skin from the Sun: Though you may feel like spending as much time as possible in the sun after a long winter, keep in mind that those UV rays are doing serious damage to your skin. It’s very easy to be sunburned i
